A behemoth; a gorgeous behemoth.

Great shot!!
Great shot!!
I spent many hours' supporting the structures testing program on the static fatigue C-5 test aircraft back in 1966 to 69 at Lockheed, it's a shame the Air Force has not taken better care of these planes, many are non-operational now especially the A models due to a lack of spare parts.
iN THE LATE 1960s Lockheed WON THE CONTRACT FOR THE C-5 IN COMPITION W/Boeing. Boeing IN TURN USED MANY FACETS OF THIER PROPOSAL AS THE STARING POINT FOR THE 747.
I took a flight on one from Anderson to Yokota. Up in the box. Thought we were still taxing at Andy since we had no windows. Take off really smooth, did. It even notice it. Love aircraft. C-141 is another beauty. Retired from the Navy in 2000 and still missing my airplanes.
I worked on these behemoths for two years as an aircrew life support specalist at Travis Air Force Base, one of the best times in my career. Great photo, brings back memories.
When I was an instructor at Lockheed's Training/Flight Test/ Final Assembly facility in Palmdale, we had three of these brutes parked in the corner of the hanger. You could look down on the stabilizers of the birds from the third mezzanine. What an aircraft! Fun times back then.
