Great Shot..
I was in the Air Force, stationed at Offutt AFB in the late '70's-early '80's with the 343d SRS/55th SRW. At that time, this plane was owned by our wing commander, Colonel (soon promoted to General) Regis F.A.Urschler.
He had Gunfighter out one day, taking an NCO for a flight. It seems that, during the landing, he added too much power too quickly and the torque flipped him on his back, a situation said not to be uncommon with this plane.
Though no one was seriously injured, the plane was severely pranged.
An intense effort was begun to get it rebuilt, as he was a quite popular commander. One of our pilots even began selling t-shirts to get it back in the air.
It did get rebuilt, and with typical humor, the general annotated it with kill flags to include 4 swastikas and one American star.

What is the Horse on the tail?
Looks like Ferrari, I know they handle one.

Mark, this is indeed an awesome photo. Brings back some memories! I was at Offutt AFB about the same time you were, cross-training for the KC/RC, etc., assorted variants of the -135 air refueler / reconn. ACFT. I was flightline maintenance and was transferring from the 62nd AW, C-141s at McChord AFB, WA, to 6 CAMS, 55th SRW, Eielson AFB, AK. I remember Gunfighter getting damaged, but the story we got was it was preparing to go to the big airshow at Oshkosh, WI. May have been same situation. Great to see these warbirds still flying!
