Per Cirium: On Oct. 11, 2025 this 1980 Bell 222 lost control and crashed into palm trees and a pedestrian bridge stairwell along Pacific Coast Highway while on approach to a parking lot in Huntington Beach, California. Video footage shows the helicopter on a stable approach before it began spinning, with the tail rotor apparently detaching before impact. Both the pilot and passenger reportedly sustained serious injuries, and three pedestrians, including a 10-year-old boy, were also injured. The accident happened in daylight (about 1400L) and in VMC - SKC. The helicopter was operating from Redlands Municipal Airport, Redlands, California, and was en route to Huntington Beach to participate in the upcoming 'Cars ’N Copters on the Coast' charity event.
