United 427 is fighting some crosswind inbound into Des Moines' Runway 13 arriving 16 minutes early from Denver having been assists with a tailwind. Photo taken May 7, 2022 at 3:48 PM CDT with Nikon D3200 at 220mm.

Due to Runway 5/23 being under construction, only Runway 13/31 are going to be in use at DSM until the end of the year. As seen in this image this can lead to some crosswind approaches and landing. On this day the wind was gusting 20 knots which is mild for Iowa considering gusts of 40 knots or more are common. Iowa is the 5th windiest state in Americas behind (1) Nebraska, (2) Kansas, (3) South Dakota, and (4) North Dakota.
