On Feb. 13, 2022 (1021 local time) this Piper PA-46-500TP Malibu Meridian crashed in an empty lot just to the north of the Johnson County Executive Airport, Olathe, Kansas just after taking off from runway 36 in VMC conditions. Upon take off, the pilot radioed ATC that he “needed to return.” A post-crash fire destroyed the aircraft and the pilot was killed. The aircraft was operating a flight to Albuquerque, New Mexico, 3 hours to the southwest.
