The US Flag on the Start/Finish Line tower in the background is at half staff as a tribute to, and in remembrance of, Sherman "Sherm" Smoot. "Sherm," who was the President of the Reno Air Racing Association's (RARA) Unlimited Class and who was registered to participate in this year's event flying Unlimited Class Race 86 ("Czech Mate" .. N5943), was fatally injured last week when "Czech Mate" crashed in Bakersfield, California, while Sherman was prepping for the races.
Blue Skies and Tail Winds Forever, Sherm.
On the day before this photo was snapped, the flag was flown at half staff in remembrance of the thousands of Americans who lost their lives on 9/11. (gcs-9/15)
