Lockheed C-130 Hercules (92-0554) - A ton of military aircraft activity at Reno Tahoe last week. This shot catches a Reno-based Nevada ANG "High Rollers" Hercules (92-0554) just as it is lifting away from runway 16R. What makes this snap "unique X 2" is that not only is it the first pic of 92-0554 to be presented in FAs gallery, but it also captures all three of the different tail flashes, from the older design right up to the newest flash design, being displayed on the 152nd AWs aircraft.

Are you able to scan and listen what might be the reason for increased activity? Were there any Navy aircraft involved? Great shot!

Hi, China--51. There are a combination of reasons. USMC troops are finishing up a multi-week training exercise up in Bridgeport. They are transporting back out (most of them to Cherry Point). Also, some military aircraft ramp up here whenever there are large exercises down at Nellis. The visiting 130s (there was a "Reach"bird and three from various other ANGs) participate in exercises with "High Rollers" for drops up in Herlong as well as in sorties downstate. The Osprey was passing thru enroute back to So Cal and the U-2 only did a T&G as it was headed back home to Beale.

Ooops. Sorry. I didn't see your 2nd question til just now. The only Navy aircraft I saw were two Tigers from Fallon and a Navy Huron. (I've posted shots of the Huron and one of the Tigers.) The Northrop 5s were only doing localizer-approaches and I do not know why the C-12 was here (but there were two others here also; one USA, one USMC). All of that action (the Hurons and the Tigers) was not last week; though, it was the week before. The two Hornets that were here last week were MC Bugs, and I don't know when they arrived but when they left they headed south.

Thank you for the info Gary. Do you ever get out near the Fallon ranges?

To clarify for viewers >> The old High Rollers tail flash is the one that is visible on the tail of 79-0480 on the left edge of this snap. On the two new flashes, the red "arrow" is common to both versions of the new flash while the white and blue backgrounds and letters are reversed.
China--51 >> I've had numerous visits to KNFL; in fact, that's where I'll be a week from today. But as far as getting out to any of the MOAs, I've never done that. My #1 goal for this summer is to get myself out to the J Transition in the Panamints. I've already been scheduled to go there twice, once in 2014 with another spotter and then again once last year (my wife was going to come along with me), but both trips fell through. This year, I'm going alone in June.
