Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress (N390TH) - Liberty Foundation's B-17G "Liberty Belle" (N390TH)br /ex USAAF 44-85734br /Photo Date: September, 2008 (15 years ago)br /w/o: 13 Jun 2011br /br /On 13 Jun 2011, departed Aurora, IL, enroute to Indianapolis but during the climbout a fire broke out by a wing fuel tank and the crew executed a successful emergency landing in a cornfield. Local fire department equipment arrived at the edge of the cornfield but due to the muddy condition of the field the equipment could not get to the bomber and as the crew and firemen watched the fire became larger and spread to the fuselage. The aircraft was subsequently destroyed by fire.
