w/o: 13 Jun 2011
On 13 Jun 2011, departed Aurora, IL, enroute to Indianapolis but during the climbout a fire broke out by a wing fuel tank and the crew executed a successful emergency landing in a cornfield. Local fire department equipment arrived at the edge of the cornfield but due to the muddy condition of the field the equipment could not get to the bomber and as the crew and firemen watched the fire became larger and spread to the fuselage. The aircraft was subsequently destroyed by fire.

Photo #4 of an eleven shot series as Liberty Belle was on s/final to RNO's Runway 16L (redesignated as Runway 17L in 2021).
It's amazing how many Wardbirds have gone away in the last few years......5x5 Gman!
