This is a taxiing maneuver I'd never seen, and I was tres impressed. The Volaris had already turned final several miles out when the tower gave Ryan the choice of flying a very extended base (to allow turbulence behind the Airbus to dissipate) or to turn left for a fast and abbreviated short approach ahead of the paxbird. Ryan chose the short approach option, and the tower asked if he could clear the runway before the Volaris came over the numbers. He gave assurances that he would have the Cub off the runway in plenty of time. Then, with the Volaris in the near distance, he popped into view in a tight left (which I captured in a three-shot sequence), leveled, and touched down just past the piano keys. But because he was going too fast to turn off at Delta, I knew he would have to taxi about halfway along 16L to get to Juliet (which was beyond my position) and I, being used to seeing the little tailwheelers taxiing slowly, figured the Volaris was going to be told to go around. Then, I watched in amazement as Ryan kept the tail up in the air and literally cruised down the runway until he came to Juliet. I took this click as he went past me. He was clear of the runway AND of Juliet and was beginning to taxi back toward me on Charlie by the time the Bus came over the airport perimeter fence. Yesterday, I had an opportunity to meet him for the first time. I mentioned this circumstance and asked how he had been able to steer without the tailwheel on the concrete. He demonstrated how he had used the rudder to stay straight while truckin' on down the runway to get to Juliet. Well, I'm no pilot and I don't know if a maneuver like that is something that is easy to do or not, but what I DO know is that I thought it was flippin' fantastic!

Great shooting and what an interesting story. Can't be an easy thing to do surely and I expect it demonstrates how good a pilot he is. That said though, it does give him a better view of where has has to go!

That is cool - love the size of those tires!

Why was this Aircraft circling over our house at 0800 in the morning? Very annoying.

?????? Why are you asking this question here? How would anyone on this photo gallery site know why this aircraft was circling over your house at 0800 this morning? Only the pilot knows the answer to that. The reg number is in plain view on my photo. Copy the reg number down, do a few moments of easy research, find out who the pilot or owner is, contact that person and ask that person your question.

William, are you sure it wasn't black unmarked helicopters over your abode?
