North American Rockwell Buckeye (NAVY2M205)
Formation training Feb. 1969 Training Squadron 9 NAS Meridian, MS
Comments
A very good photo of North American T-2A Buckeyes flying out of NAS Meridian, McCain Field. Meridian's NAS T-2C Buckeyes were a familiar sight to me in the past.
In this formation of Buckeyes, Navy b/n 147448, msn 253-39, is positioned off the starboard wing of Navy b/n 147494, msn 253-85, which is in the foreground of the photo.
Joe Baugher's published information indicates that T-2A b/n 147448 was later transferred to MASDC. No final disposition is noted for the other Buckeye. Mr. Baugher notes the original Navy designation for the Buckeye was T2J-1, and this type was "Redesignated T-2A in 1962".

I took this picture (and several others posted here) from the back seat of a T-2A chase plane while two student pilots (like me) were preforming a syllabus formation training flight in early 1969 - flying out of NAS Meridian, MS.
Ray Thomas >>> I am very appreciative for your added background information on this excellent photo as you snapped. Thanks for sharing this one with us!
