N690RH —
Slinging light poles up a new run at the Utah Olympic Park, Park City, UT
Comments
That's a Kaman K-MAX. It has 2 synchronized contra-rotating main rotors, so no need for a tail rotor.
Looks like Mountain West Helicopters. Worked for that company some years ago. They had 2 of those birds back then. Impressive bird and quiet when its in the air.
KMAX is the ICAO type designator. Please don't make up your own.
Ages since I have seen or heard anything about Kaman. My cousin was the logistics manager at the Moosup, CT plant. He was given an Ovation guitar also manufactured by Kaman. The Ovation was the same guitar used by Glen Campbell.
"Not make up your own"? OK, it is a K-1200.
Preston Daniel - The Olympic Flight Museum in Olympia WA has a restored airworthy Kaman H-43 Husky (the grandpappy of the K-Max); got to see it fly a few years back, and it was also surprisingly quiet. Neat aircraft both!
