McDonnell Douglas MD-83 (N834RA) - KRNO - "Rattlesnake Hill"............what more can I say - "G-man" aka Gary Schenauer from the RNO area - has made the trek up to the top of this large hill on the SE corner of Reno Tahoe Intl Airport providing us with some of the most spectacular photos of Reno Airliner traffic (and Military ) arriving and departing the main runways that I have ever seen. So, one of these days, in the near future, I will Email Gman and ask for a meet, and we'll walk the trail to the top ( G-man 1st.....) during the "correct time of the year" so I can see what it is like.....even before G-man was here and still sweeping floors in the USAF hangars, this photo was taken in the early 90s...I wanted to go up that hill and take photos but figured it was private property. I never knew snakes were up there until G-man described walking up there one day-early AM and had to "move" some snakes out of the way...now you know why I said G-man goes 1st. N834RA is on the left in this early 1990s photo looking SSE, the RenoAir on the right may be N842RA but I cannot read the reg.

Howdy, Alien. (Big Grin) Don't know if you read your e/m from me, but I'm going to have to postpone my next hike up The Snake for a few weeks. It was exactly three weeks ago today I broke my hip and leg and the e surgery was three weeks ago tomorrow. The doc in CA who screwed everything back together told me it would be about 12 weeks before I'd be doing any more aviation photography and when we got back to Reno the doc here said the same thing. Both were waaaay wrong (Grin). Yesterday, less than three weeks since I took the tumble, I "walked" (with a walker) out to Taxiway Charlie on my own to click a departing RCAF CP-140 Aurora. I'm already able to walk about 1/2 mile on level terrain. But climbing The Snake is going to be a whole lot tougher. My goal is to climb it by New Years Day, but the P/T folks, the doc, and my better half are all adamantly against it. If there is snow and ice on it at that time, I'll definitely cancel because the leg and hip are nowhere near completely healed and if the footing is treacherous I'd almost certainly slip and fall and then I'd probably have to start all over again. But I promise that if you hold off til the steep trail is clear of ice and snow, I'll get up there on my own two feet once again and so we can go as teammates. (Scout's honor).
This is an outstanding pic, T. I'm just today able to sit back at the computer so I'll be catchin' up on all your posts pronto. Here's 5 for this one and i'm sure there are plenty more ***** posts. (Both Thumbs Up when I'm not hangin' on to this dang walker -- lol.)
