Piper Navajo (VH-HFD)
RFDS Tasmanian Section Piper Mojave PA-31P-350 serial number 31P-8414044
Comments
The Piper Mojave was purchased by the RFDS WA, to eventually be phased in as a replacement for the various piston twins that were operated by the organisation.
In the mid 80's the RFDS operated Beechcraft Barons, Beechcraft Queenairs,
Cessna C421B's, Piper Navajo's and Piper Chieftains.
The Mojave had the advantage of being pressurised, a large air-stair door and a small cargo door that allowed stretcher patients to be easily loaded and at the time Piper was still building aircraft.
In the end Piper stopped building the Mojave after only producing fifty airframes, and also stopped producing the Chieftain and Navajo..
The RFDS then moved into an all turbine fleet of Beechcraft Kingairs and the Pilatus PC-12.
