Bankrupt Alaska airline seeks bonus for its chief executive
The largest rural airline in Alaska has declared bankruptcy and laid off more than a thousand workers but wants to award $250,000 in bonus money to its chief executive and other employees. Anchorage-based RavnAir Group filed the request Tuesday in Delaware bankruptcy court, arguing that the bonuses are justified because of long hours and the hard work that went into selling the company's assets after it shut down during the coronavirus pandemic, Alaska Public Radio reported. This really disgusts me. Ravn was our goto airline between Kodiak and Anchorage for years. When the airline was bought out a few years back service, maintenance and safety quickly declined. A pilot friend of ours who flew for them said, "I wouldn't fly with them" he left and moved on with his career. I spent an entire day in Anchorage last winter having 3 flights canceled, "icing" was the problem, yet everyone else was flying that day. The real reason, they didn't have full planes and the long-lasting de-icer is more expensive, plane would get de-iced taxi out and ice again. Ended up being bumped over to Alaska Air at the end of the day but only after being forced to wait out a flight 3 times before I was moved over. This airline was headed for bankruptcy before COVID-19. They still got COVID relief funds and now bonuses? This is one of the reasons people are so cynical about corporations.
