Submitted
After scouring a littered seascape with its NATO allies, a Canadian Forces warship formally ended its search for survivors Friday after its maritime helicopter crashed off the coast of Greece. The search for five lost crew in the Wednesday Cyclone helicopter crash formally ended after three days, the Canadian Forces said. Six military personnel were aboard the helicopter when it went down in the Mediterranean Sea as it was returning to the Halifax-based frigate, HMCS Fredericton. (www.ctvnews.ca) More...

Today is the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic in Canada and the UK. This crew was based at Shearwater and composed of half Nova Scotia natives. While each of their deaths is tragic, the loss of SLt Abbigail Cowbroughhit hit the Dartmouth community particularly hard. Beginning as a Sea Cadet and a talented bagpipe player, she graduated in Maritime Systems Engineering from Canada's Royal Military College. After graduation she was posted to sea but with her family threw herself into the community, her church and the pipe band of Halifax Fire.

Last week she played her bagpipes in memory of the 22 Nova Scotians murdered by a gunman including veteran RCMP officer Heidi Stevenson. Today we remember her and her shipmates on a day all Canadians honour those lost in Canada's longest battle.

Her she is on HMCS Fredericton.
