Nor, really has anyone else as the FAA marches lockstep toward sole source nav. letting the other guys pick up the maintenance, capital costs of satellites not on the FAA budget. Maintaining all those VOR's means they will go the way of the NDB, LORAN, and Dodo bird. And the leap to VNAV GPS approaches renders what irrelevant? Oh, that would be the ILS. All maintenance hogs. Follow the money. In another bit of trivia today, assigned a hold at the initial approach fix for an RNAV GPS approach at a midwestern airport which shall remain nameless to protect the guilty. We entered the hold and being the curious rabblerouser that I can be, I inquired as to why. Towers request, came the gruff response. Called the tower and inquired why we were holding and the response was,,,,,? no idea, nothing going on here! Nobody else in the Q, can't make this stuff up, couple a turns in the hold for practice, It's all good!
