Boeing Showing 737-8ERX Concept In Response to Airbus A321LR

Boeing is showing some airlines a concept it calls the 737-8ERX, a long range version of the 737-8 MAX, in response to the Airbus A321LR, Leeham News and Comment has learned. Sources within Boeing confirmed the concept but Boeing Corporate Communications did not make someone available for an interview. I can not find the article - but these mods remind me of what Boeing had already planning for the BBJ version of the -8. The new BBJ -8 derivative was going to use the -9 wing and gear so it could carry 11 additional internal fuel tanks. So not sure this is a move due to the 321LR and the BBJ mods were planned well before Airbus thought up the LR.
