Am I the only one wondering why copters and planes are not equipped with outside airbags that deploy on contact with water? Large airliners usually break up on ditching, so they could have airbags fore and aft, so the pieces would float... and small private craft could be kept afloat at least long enough for any survivors to get out.

For one thing if they deploy early it'll rattle your noggin.

Think cost, weight, and space. Not necessarily in that order. But probably close.
