O'Hare runway ready to fly

Submitted
A new runway opens for business Thursday at O'Hare International Airport, a part of a much larger and costly expansion expected to eat away at delays that are among the worst in the nation. But the 10,800-foot stretch of pavement, with its anticipated increase in flights, has also triggered an uproar over jet noise that is expected to skew toward Chicago's Northwest Side and the western suburbs. Big change from what it used to be in the 90's. I can still remember lines of planes just sitting on taxiways, parked, engines shut down, as if they were intentionally put there...when in reality they were all waiting to takeoff, not because of a blizzard or heavy thunderstorms, but simply because of LOW CLOUDS. Now, O'Hare won't seem like such a nightmare for passengers..."and" controllers.

I grew up just 5 miles away from there and made frequent trips there. I remember the observation deck in terminal 2 and watching people go through customs from the upper floor in terminal 1. I know exactly what you're talking about. They are talking adding another E\W runway slated to open 2015 but airlines are not willing to fund it as of right now. Talk about runway overkill.
