Northern California "Rim" fire MAFFS # 6 drops retardant
There was a post of MAFFS # 4 dropping on this fire several days ago; this is MAFFS # 6. As the Blogger notes " The first one has spectacular views of the fire from a vantage point seen by very few people. If you only watch one, watch the first one. This also addresses the aural "landing Gear" warning which Lockheed hopes to have an override option. (fireaviation.com) More...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
I love seeing the MAFFS planes flying out of CLT. It's amazing to know that those planes have the capability to put out forest fires.
MAFFS5 or 6 came in toward KMHR late this afternoon, it didn't have the pink striping I've seen on the ANG ACs previously so wasn't sure. Heard them a bit later talking with NorCal Tracon and going into KMCC along with 911H which I think was the DC 10. They headed back out to the Rim fire about 1800.
Thanks for the post Chip. And thanks to all those on and over the firelines.

Hey Chip, thanks for posting this one, I got busy or I would have done it Sir.
But then I get to watch the drops in real time including having a DC-10 fly low and slow over our house now <9 miles from the advancing fire lines.

Best wishes for defensible space. 9 miles ain't a lot for this one.
