1955 ..... To US Navy and redesignated as an R5D-3 (56505).
1975 ..... Declared surplus; sold.
1975 ..... Purchaed by Central Air Service (N67041) and placed in operation as an Air Tanker (Tanker 149).
1988/9 ... Acquired by Travis Heritage Center and placed on display at Travis AFB Air Museum in its former MATS livery (42-72560).
May, 2022 .... Photographed here still on static display on Travis AFB (KSUU), CA.
** MATS ..... M(ilitary) A(ir) T(ransport) S(ervice). Established in 1948 by combining the USAF's Air Transport Command and the USN's Naval Air Transport Service into one DoD Unified Command. MATS existed until the mid 60s (1966) when it was superseded by the USAF Military Airlift Command (MAC). The blue and gold "earth' circle visible in the center of the MATS livery is the MATS emblem.
