2014 Greatest Show on Turf at Geneseo
Comments
The P38 brings to my mind the Lightning strike to get Admiral YAMMOTO ... the P 38 really did a job for the hero's who flew that mission. Five hundred miles over water at 50 feet altitude. I recently met the last remaining pilot of that mission.... Douglas Canning, he lives a few miles form me and is now 95 years of age. I look forward to escorting him to the TICO - VAC airshow 14 March 2015 at Titusville, Florida.
Here is a link to the Wikipedia article about that mission, mentioning Doug Channing.

What a great honor Gen. Barnhart, to be able to know one of our many heroes from "The Greatest Generation"

What about that Wooden Wonder? Teh DH.98 Mosquito was mostly wood but has a pretty decent airspeed and a good record for a fighter-bomber.
I saw the first public flight of N114KA on September 29th 2012 at Ardmore, Auckland, New Zealand after the team at Avspecs Ltd. had completed a lengthy restore for her owner Jerry Yagen. What a great experience seeing & hearing those two Merlin engines in full song ! Fantastic !
