Sikorsky S-64 Firefighting Skycrane - This in just one of four Skycranes battling the Carpenter 1 Fire outside Las Vegas. A lightning strike started the blaze in the Carpenter Canyon area on the western side of the mountain July 1. As of Sunday afternoon (07/14/13), the Carpenter 1 fire had charred 27,881 acres or roughly 43 square miles. Approx. 1,000 firefighters are battling the blaze, which is 70 percent contained.
