Never trust Italian controllers.
Not an F-35C if it's in the Italian Air Force. They only have As and Bs. They don't have a carrier capable of taking the F-35Cs, which require catapult launch capability and an angled flight deck and arrestor wires for recovery. Italy has opted for the F-35B as they are V/STOL capable. They are commissioned on the Cavour, which previously had Harriers.
Yes Alan you're correct - rear fuselage in photo - labelled F35A
Alan, that's an anomaly due to the ICAO type code being "F35" for all 3 variants. FA translates it as F35C.
Never make a carrier landing with that skimpy nose wheel. The C has dual front wheels like its predecessors the Tomcat and F18s. It has a larger wingspan too, but you can't easily tell that from the picture.
It looks like the Typhoon is being transported by the F-35 to the Cape for another space launch :)
Excellent shot!
Also, a dead visual giveaway is (gear extended) the "C" has a dual nose wheel and heavier gear for cat launches.
Outstanding!
