This is another shot from inside a B-24 that isn't especially pretty. But it does give you a better idea of what the tail gunner's position is like. He was crammed into a tiny cubicle that seems to be stuck onto the plane - almost as an afterthought. (The B-17's tail gun is a least built into the fuselage.) Also, those gaps of a few inches on either side of the turret are just open to the outside. There is a lot of air coming in through them which adds to the noise and vibration and bouncing around. In fact, any movement of the airplane - and there is a lot - seems to be accentuated at the rear. So, that makes life more exciting! We were only flying up a few thousand feet, and it was pretty cool for a beautiful spring day in Arizona. I wonder just how cold it would have been flying up at 20,000+ ft during the war. The tail gunner's field of view is not that great, either. Hopefully, you can get an idea of what life was like for the tail gunner even if the picture isn't that great.
