Anyone, what purpose did the 'eyebrow' windows serve?

mark, the eyebrow windows come from the 707 design.(737 is based distantly off the 707) used in the KC-135A for better view of the refueling boom.
the T-43s (B737-200s) have them but I don't think the new P-8s do
the new 800s and 900s do not have the windows but if you ever look in the cockpit youll see them faired over with plastic panels
