It was light out but the sun was behind some morning haze clouds east of the airport so there was no direct morning sunlight. As the hazey clouds burned off, the light became more brilliant but by then the golden hour had passed.

Agree with Richard, and then you have the advantage of that background to compliment your photog skills.

Nice shot Gary. The thing that hits me is how little trailing edge T/O wing flap he has selected. But that is logical, considering your surrounding high terrain and also coupled with having a long runway available.
