This is an experimental electric powered aircraft built by Beta in Vermont. Laughing at the FAA since the registration certificate classifies it as a balloon.

The FAA...look up there in the sky, is it bird, is it a plane, no it's a...a...uh, dunno what it is.
George Brunjes
BETA so proud of you all, congratulations 😎

I love it !

What's its endurance??
Rick Wald
A few flights logged at about 2 hours duration!

Pretty impressive.

Harbour Air is flying commuters from Victoria to Vancouver with Electric float planes.

But doing it in a BALLOON is crazy headline click-bait stuff!!

Wondering what Canadian authorities would classify it as?

It's a funny looking pos.

Could be the Roswell weather balloon?
bengardneryoung
Uh, HA is not flying passengers on electric Beavers just yet.

Looking at its flight history, I see only 1 flight that was more then 2 hours. And that by only 9 minutes. Still an interesting piece of gear.
Rick VanSice
Actually pretty cool looking aircraft, but, the gear gives it a look of "a lotta drag hangin' on".
skylab72
I see those "high drag gear" as part of a clever design waiting on battery efficiency to catch up with the concept. That is not a cross country people hauler it is a metro area quad-copter high-speed shuttle. If they can make the "conventional" operation aerodynamics stand-alone effective (and certified), then adding VTOL motors, rotors & batteries will be a cake-walk. Kudos! Rock on Beta.

Checking the registry morning of 5/29, I find type aircraft changed to "Unknown." Better than balloon, I guess

Great pic
thanks for taking it for those of us who had no idea---

Very quiet aircraft, perhaps the FAA could learn something here.
Tro Henderson
Love to see more of these
